What's the Big Deal about Fiber?

Most Americans don’t get enough fiber in their diet. Do you?

Recommended daily fiber intake is between 28 to 35 grams of fiber per day. Examples of food choices with fiber include plums, berries, oats, beans, whole grain foods, apples, and broccoli.

Fiber is your ally especially if you are trying to lose weight. Fiber is wonderful because it will help you feel full without fat. Eating slowly will also help in feeling full. Fiber has other benefits including prevention of cardiovascular disease and colon cancer.

Do you eat veggies and fruit every day?

I sometimes slip, but today I did well (in that regard).

Fiber is definitely something I make sure to get in my diet, especially when I'm trying to lose weight. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, especially in the summer. In the winter, I rely on stocking my freezer liberally with the frozen vegetables mixes I can throw into meals for added nutrition. I also LOVE the fiber one granola bars, have you tried them? I never would have myself except they were running a super sale on them at Meijer last year and I tried the peanut butter flavor--absolutely fantastic!! Kroger makes a generic version now too. My favorite flavors are the peanut butter and the carmel. 33% of your fiber for the day, especially helpful when traveling!
